Trivets

The first clear print. Not as easy to get as one would think.

This is a 17" square "hanky", silk satin.

A Note from the Artist

I grew up on a farm, so it is partly in homage to my father and partly in humor that I refer to my process as reverse farming. Harvested plant materials paired with rusted iron objects (often old farm implements) makes possible a wide variety of virtually permanent color marks on silk through direct contact printing. Since 2007, I have adapted shibori techniques to broaden the scope of my landscapes and farm stories which develop organically--outdoors, where, as in real farming, the season, temperature, humidity and timing affect the outcome.
